This evocative book provides a permanent record of the ground-breaking Mughal Tent project which united groups of Asian women and children from around the world in the creation of textile panels of extraordinary freshness and beauty, fusing the influences of many cultures. The project began in the UK but soon spread to nine other countries - India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Burma, Malaysia, South Africa, Dubai, Ireland and the United States. The exhibition, Shamiana: The Mughal Tent, brought the work together in ´ the tent that covered the world´ at the V&A in summer 1997. It is now on a three-year international tour. The book celebrates this remarkable achievement and is a colourful record of a highly innovative arts education project which has become a model for institutions across the world.
